The year 2006 has been a period of very significant milestones in the history of our club. It is the year in which we gained access to a magnificent club house located at 38a Elstree Ave, in Glen Innes – Auckland. We have also finally obtained the official “Resource Consent” to establish and operate a dedicated airfield for model aircraft in the Point England reserve near our club house. It has taken a fanatical group of nucleus members, nearly ten years of relentless tenacity and determination to cross all the legal hurdles, and achieve this dream goal. Our president Pete Smith, together with his faithful team have really earned our respect and gratitude for their victorious campaign.
This newsletter is another new item, which we hope to publish regularly. Even the editor is a new broom in the club. The primary aim of this newsletter is to keep members informed about all club activities, and operations. Additional items of interest will be topics like, test reports from members on their various models, motors, batteries, special tools, servos, transmitters etc. Articles on design theory, and even some good jokes/humour will be included to add some balance to the newsletter.
The only way we can publish regularly, is if we obtain articles and photos from you, our members. Everyone has some experience (or bad experiences) that can be shared, so please participate by contributing to the newsletter. I sincerely hope you enjoy this first issue.
Every Friday evening, from 7.30 p.m. we meet at the clubhouse for an informal chat, and refreshments. (Tea, coffee, & cool drinks.) Guests are always welcomed. It is a wonderful opportunity to meet, and get to know fellow members. This is how the current warm camaraderie has been developed. It is also an opportunity to bring your models for their WOF's which will be required before they can be flown at the Point England field. At the same time you will have the opportunity to see what other people have built/assembled. This way we can all learn from one another.
On the topic of WOF's, the club scrutineers are volunteers, who are also entitled to stick time on official flying days. For this reason, WOF's are being issued on Friday nights. Only in special circumstances will they be issued on the field. We cannot guarantee a scrutineer will always be available on flying days.
